High-Rolling Titan Poker Player Wins His 5th Land-Based Tournament Seat

(PRWEB) May 4, 2008 -- Jelte Kruijer, a talented poker player from the Netherlands, won his right to represent Titan Poker, the largest poker room on the iPoker Network, at the highly anticipated ECPT Madrid Open 2008. This wonderful achievement comes on the heels of Jelte scoring spots to the World Series of Poker, the World Poker Showdown (WPS) and winning tens of thousands of dollars in cash over the past eleven months.
Jelte Kruijer's winning streak began in May 2007, when he won a $14,000 seat to the 2007 WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas through a Titan Poker Super Satellite Tournament. Since then, he has also won a prize package to the WPS in Costa Rica and finished first place in Titan Poker's $100,000 Guaranteed and $50,000 Guaranteed Tournaments.
Jelte, 39, has been playing semi-professionally for over a year. He said: "I am very happy and thankful to Titan Poker for having such great promotions. It seems that I'm on my way to the top." Jelte will be joined in Madrid by at least thirty-seven other Titan Poker player. Players are winning seats practically every day as the online Super Satellites are continuing until April 27th.
The ECPT Madrid Open is the first of many "land-based" tournaments that Titan Poker plans on sponsoring. While keeping busy preparing a sophisticated poker experience, Titan Poker hopes to power land-based events regularly. Jelte Kruijer is just one of the many loyal players who will reap the benefit of attending this elite poker experience.
In addition to the ECPT Madrid Open, Titan Poker is presently offering a wide array of tournaments to its players. Poker enthusiasts are currently competing for a seat to the Asian Poker Tour Manila which will be occurring this May in the Philippines. Seats to this event are highly desirable on account of the mammoth $1 million in guaranteed prizes.

Young pro’s quads straight-flushed away
Every young poker player looks forward to turning 21 to play in most U.S. casinos - dreaming of entering a main event, winning the title and earning millions as a poker champion.
Does this sound too unrealistic? Well, this exact chain of events happened to Nick Schulman. Known as “The Takeover” online, he dominated for years in poker cyberspace before taking the live tournament circuit by storm.
After turning 21 in September 2005, he won the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) World Poker Finals at Foxwoods that November, earning $2.1 million. In November of 2007, he had an opportunity to become the first player in WPT history to repeat as champion in the same event. He had to settled for second place, but took home almost $865,000.
Although Schulman has won more than $3.3 million on tour, his status in the poker world still does not make him immune to bad beats. After seeing Schulman recently at a tournament, I asked him to recount the following hand from the 2008 Winter Borgata Poker $10,000 main event.
During the first level (blinds 25 and 50), a player in mid position raised to 300. Sitting on the button, Schulman looked down at 5h-5c and decided to call, as did the big blind. They were off to a three-handed flop.
And what a flop it was for Schulman - Ks-5s-5d!
After the big blind checked, the initial raiser bet 500. Not at all slow-playing his quad fives, Schulman raised to 1,500. After the big blind surrendered, Mr. Raiser called.
The dealer proceeded to turn the 4s. Surprisingly, Mr. Raiser led out with 1,000. Undaunted, Schulman raised to 4,000 with his monster hand. As Schulman had hoped, Mr. Raiser called his bet.
The river brought the 2s. Finally, Mr. Raiser slowed down by checking. Now, Schulman calculated how much he could extract from his opponent, eventually betting 11,000. After a moment, Mr. Raiser unexpectedly pushed all-in. Of course, Schulman called with his four of a kind.
Then Mr. Raiser revealed As-3s for a . . . straight flush.
Let’s review how unlucky Schulman was. After the flop, he was an astronomical 99.8:0.2 favorite. When the dealer turned the possible straight flush, Mr. Raiser then had a 2 percent chance of catching the perfect card - 2s. Against all odds, that exact card fell on the river.
So remember, bad beats don’t just happen to you. They can also happen to the best poker players in the world.

NO Bull!
Angola Prison, Louisiana have incorporated poker in to it’s annual rodeo day.
One variation involves the convicts playing at a poker table whilst a bull charges at them.
The game’s winner is the last man sitting as the bull stampedes the table. He gets $50.
The show’s finale is called Guts and Glory. The clue is in the title.
A £300 poker chip is situated between the horns of an angry bull. The winner is the one who gets it.
It’s all thanks to warden Burl Cain, a devout Christian, who sees Angola as “the land of new beginnings”.
Burl commented “”Most people are going to die in here. I can’t save their lives, but I can help save their souls. My mamma told me that I was responsible for their souls.
“God is going to hold me accountable. Therefore I took her seriously; you have got to do what your mamma tells you.”
